Arthur J. Boni (Art) holds the John R. Thorne Chair of Entrepreneurship and Associate Teaching Professor Entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon University. He has decades of experience in funding and managing successful start-ups in the biomedical industry. He has extensive management, fund raising, investment, and technology development and commercialization experience in life science that includes biotechnology, biomedical, pharmaceutical, and high-technology and industrial markets. Previously he served as Managing Director of Saturn Life Science Partners LLC. Dr. Boni served as the Founding Chief Executive Officer of SynAx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SciVision. During the period 1973 through 1996, he founded and/or held senior executive operating positions in 8 entrepreneurial companies in San Diego and Boston. He serves as a Director or an Advisor to several companies and foundations in Pittsburgh, PA. He is a member of the Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association, the Association of University Technology Managers, and the Licensing Executives Society. He founded the Office of Technology Management at the University of Pittsburgh, and served as Director from 1996 to 2001. He served as a Director at The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Association.
Dr. Boni received his PhD in Engineering Science and Engineering Physics from the University of California, San Diego, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
His teaching and research interests include Entrepreneurship and new venture creation, commercialization of technology and biotechnology, venture capital investing, innovation and entrepreneurship in corporate environments, and leadership in entrepreneurial companies. He has advisory relationships with technology and biotechnology companies on corporate strategy, partnering, licensing, and intellectual property, and holds numerous advisory roles in economic development organizations in Pittsburgh.
